Cosmetic surgery is about improving your visual appearance. Common cosmetic operations can include Mammoplasty - Breast enlargement, reduction and lift, Rhinoplasty - Nose jobs, Facelifts, Liposuction and of course, Botox, the list could go on! It's extremely critical to consider what the implications are of cosmetic surgery, and the pros and cons, before deciding upon whether or not it is right for you. Cosmetic procedures such as those mentioned above has increased considerably in popularity. This may be partly down to celebrities and other high profile people are choosing to try and stall or turn back the hands of time by going under the knife, instead of growing old gracefully. With so much importance on looks in today's society, many opt for plastic surgery to make them look younger or to change features they do not like. Many individuals feel the pressure to fit in so much so that they start choose surgery from as early on as their teens! You may opt for cosmetic surgery for reconstruction purposes, possibly as a result of an accident or for a natural defect. Equally you may wish to alter your appearance because you are simply unhappy with a particular feature. Surgery may alter physical appearances, and thus boost your self-confidence; it won't however solve deeper personal issues. Therefore you need to ask yourself why you wish to change your appearance, and for this you need to be absolutely honest with yourself. What is your motivation behind your wish to change, have you been thinking about it for a while? What has made you consider surgery - is it because you want to or have you been influenced by someone or something else? Do you expect the surgery to be the answer to all your dreams? If you're unsure of the answers or hesitant, then cosmetic surgery is almost certainly not for you! You also need to be aware of all the facts with regards to your chosen procedure and of course the figures, as not every plastic surgery procedures are available for free on the NHS! As with any surgery, there are always risks involved, therefore be sure to get the right information and don't be afraid to ask a consultant too. Swelling and nausea are general reactions, however they can be far more serious, even life threatening. All surgical procedures naturally always carry a risk, and whilst it may go without a hitch, things can also go wrong, so you need to be prepared for any eventualities. The rewards of cosmetic surgery do depend on the individual. Some will be overjoyed with the result, whilst others may live to regret making that choice. But by investigating all aspects of the cosmetic surgery coin - researching, finding a reputable surgeon, talking it over, will all help you decide if it is the right way forward for you and will answer the question of whether or not to have cosmetic surgery. |
