Should I Have An Eye Lift?

Should I have an eye lift?

68

There is an ancient proverb that says the eyes are the window to the soul. Our eyes are the first feature people notice about us, which when you are young and carefree is just fine, but as we age, and stress, sun damage and other external factors take their toll, our eyes give away almost too much as we get wrinkles, baggy bits and bags. This is the reason so many people decide to go for an eye lift to regain their youthful looks.

When you consider how much our eyes have to do, it is no wonder they are the first area on our faces to start to show signs of wear and tear. Other than giving us our visual references, our eyes also blink on average every 6 seconds day in day out.? Then there are other factors such as make up, contact lenses and crying that all add to the wear and tear, then of course there is sun damage and smoking to add on top of that.

There are ways to help preserve the skin around our eyes, like not squinting in the sun - wear sunglasses instead. Don't pull at the skin around your eyes, especially when applying moisutriser or taking make-up off, try and avoid polluted atmospheres and get lots of good quality sleep.? Now it is all very well and good having great intentions for your eyes, but inevitably they are going to age, and if they are aging quicker than you are then maybe an eye lift is for you.? Eye lifts are also referred to as blepharoplasty which comes from the greek blepharon, meaning eyelid and plastos meaning formed. There are many different types of eye lift available and depending on the severity and location of your wrinkles, a surgeon will be able to advise you which will give you the best results.

Upper eyelid lifts

An incision is made along the natural crease of your eye, and then a very thin section of muscle, excess skin and excess fatty tissue are removed. The incision is then stitched with incredibly fine stitches.

Lower eyelid lift

The incision is made on the outside of the eyelid just below the lash line. The skin is then lifted either with our without the underlying muscle, excess fat is trimmed then the skin is trimmed and stitched back in place.? It may be that the skin can also be stretched slightly to remove find lines around the area, which makes this more suited to older patients

The recovery time from either form of eyelift will be the same. You will need to take around 2 weeks off work while the bruising subsisdes, which should be around 10 days. Any stitches will ususally be disolvable so you won't need to go back and have them removed.?? It is a farily simple procedure to undergo, but like any surgery shouldn't be taken lightly. If you decide to have an eye lift then make sure you fully understand the implications before going ahead.
